In stark contrast to our November Working Bee, our volunteers battled the heat in loading 17 tonnes of sand and aggregate material into the new Sand Filter. The sand filter ensures that only filtered water enters the local environment through the new evaporation trench that we built in 2017.
Behind the scenes
25 tonnes of equipment and material were delivered by Semi-Trailer truck to the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre in the week prior to our helicopter operations and on the night of 24 Jan it was all transported to Waldheim by 10 cars with trailers. The next day it was all flown to the hut and the cargo also included tanks for the new system, 1 tonne of concrete mix and a new glass and aluminium balustrade for the deck.
